FAQs for booking coach tickets to Paris

How do I get to the main bus stations in Paris?

Most Paris buses use three main bus stations: Gare Saint-Lazare, Gare de l'Est and Gare du Nord. They each serve different districts of the city, as well as being the departure and arrival stations for international trains. To get to Gare du Nord from the centre of Paris you can hop onto a Paris RER B Line train. You can also take the Line Four subway train or the N14 bus, which will take slightly longer. Getting to Gare de l’Est is a matter of catching the Line Four subway, which will take only a short while, or the Line 38 bus, taking roughly the same time. If you want to travel from Gare Saint-Lazare, the Line 14 subway will get you there quickly. Otherwise, catch the Line 13 bus in Paris to arrive a few minutes later.

What shops and restaurants are at the bus stations in Paris?

The Paris bus stations are busy commuter hubs with plenty of facilities. Gare du Nord is one of the busiest transport stations in Europe, and has plenty of kiosks where you can buy drinks, snacks and traditional baguettes, and a mini-supermarket. Taxis are easily available right outside the main entrance/exit and you can cross the road to the Brasserie Terminus Nord for a meal in an Art Nouveau setting built in 1925. Gare de l’Est is a calmer station, mostly handling trains in the east of the city. It has bistros and cafés, a Marks & Spencer food hall, and a mini-supermarket. Gare Saint-Lazare serves the north of Paris. It boasts modern facilities like a three-deck shopping mall, coffee shops, takeaway outlets, and plenty of bistros and other food stores. You’ll also find casual bars and cafés.

What can I travel with on a bus from Paris?

Paris bus tickets on the domestic Metro bus service, operated by RATP, will allow you to take a variety of types of luggage with you. They also offer cheap bus prices. Bear in mind that these are commuter buses without storage holds, so you’ll be carrying all luggage on board with you. You can take various types of rucksacks and suitcases, within specified dimension. You can also take longer packages, on condition that you can hold them in a vertical position for the duration of the journey without obstructing other passengers. Baby strollers are allowed, whether foldable or not – the only condition attached is that you must board at the front of the bus. Also note that you won’t be able to leave any of your luggage unattended.

What accessibility features does the Paris bus network have?

All RATP buses in Paris on all lines are accessible for passengers in wheelchairs, with over 70% of all bus stations in the city having been adapted for wheelchair use too. You can download the bus company’s app to see exactly which ones have the best amenities. Personal assistance with boarding is available by approaching the information desk. An accessibility-trained person will accompany you to the platform and attach the mobile gangway for you to board the bus. Persons with limited mobility and hidden disabilities can get one of the city’s Améthyste discounted travel passes, which allows you to ride on cheap buses all over Paris, saving as much as 50% on the price of tickets.

What are the major cities I can get to by bus from Paris?

You can get relatively cheap bus tickets from Paris to many of the major cities in France, as well as plenty of smaller towns in regions outside the capital. Gare Saint-Lazare serves the entire Normandy area to the east, including towns and cities like Caen and Le Havre. To the north you can reach Beauvais and Amiens in a relatively short amount of time too. If you travel a bit further north you can reach Calais and Dunkirk – just be aware that this will involve changes of train on the way. Orleans lies to the south, as does Fontainebleau. To the east you can visit Meaux. There are also three large nature reserves just outside the Paris metropolitan area, Haute Vallee de Chevreuse, Parc du Gatinais Francais, and Parc Oise-Pays de France.
