If you are looking for hotels in Barbados, then you can’t look too far past staying somewhere in Bridgetown, the capital city of the island. Hotels such as the Palm Garden Hotel or the cheaper Jesson Apartments are well-situated within Bridgetown for a comfortable stay. We recommend that you hire a car during your stay, as the city is not overly complicated to get around, and it will let you visit some incredible places that are outside the city. Car rentals can be organised at the airport, with famous franchises, such as Hertz, Europcar and Sixt. If you would prefer to stay away from the capital, the smaller city of Speightstown is just up the coast, and a stay at Cobblers Cove is recommended. If you would prefer not to hire a car, the cities are generally safe to walk around, and there are public transport options like buses (blue with a yellow stripe), minibuses and shared taxes called ZRs at your disposal.
One of the most famous reasons that tourists travel to Barbados every year is to witness the Crop Over Festival. It starts at the beginning of July and runs until the first Monday of August, and includes activities such as singing, dancing, and sporting competitions, and the male and female who have collected the most sugarcane are crowned the King and Queen of the festival at the end ceremony. Another main attraction in Barbados is the Carlisle Bay, in Bridgetown, where tourists and locals alike go to relax in the calm waters. If you are seeking a little more adventure, you can go on paid snorkelling and scuba diving trips to see turtles and shipwrecks. For guests who are looking to book hotels in Barbados near the popular attractions, we recommend the Hilton Barbados Resort or the Melbourne Inn.
A lot of the Barbados hotels are in Bridgetown, and that is also where you will find most of the nightlife. Baxters Road is famous for having parties that last until dawn, as well a rich culinary culture based on local cuisine. The Waterfront Café is highly recommended as somewhere you can try the national dish: cou cou and flying fish, and it is placed beside the beach. The Radisson Aquatica Resort Barbados, and the Courtyard by Marriot Bridgetown are only a 35-minute walk from Baxters Road, or eight minutes in the car.
Barbados has a rich history, including the oldest remaining rum company in the world: Mount Gay Rum, which is in Saint Lucy, a district at the opposite end of the island to Bridgetown. A stay at the Sea Symphony Villas places you very close to the paid tours of the rum factory, yet still on the western side of the island. The Arlington House Museum in Speightstown, offers a digital display of the local history, as well as island history including the sensitively displayed topic of slavery. If you are interested in staying in cheap hotels in Barbados, then we recommend the Cassandra 2 Beach Apartments in Speightstown.
If you are looking to save money on your hotel room in Barbados, consider visiting the country in September as it is the least expensive month at just £196 per night. Avoid booking a hotel room in January if you are looking for a deal; it is the most expensive month.
There is little doubt that travellers enjoy various cities in Barbados, but the majority of travellers who visit Barbados tend to spend the most time in Bridgetown.
Visiting and staying overnight in Saint James will cost you a premium compared to the rest of Barbados. Expect to pay £140 per night, a rate that is about 23% more than the country’s average.
